Obituary for Robert J. Buhay

Robert J. (“Bob”) Buhay, of Johns Creek, GA, age 53, passed away of heart failure on February 13, 2018, after a long battle following a heart attack in early December.

Bob was born in Binghamton, NY, in 1964 and spent his childhood in Rockville, MD; Marietta, GA; and Irvine, CA. After graduating from Irvine High School, Bob enrolled in Auburn University. He graduated in 1987 with a degree in accounting.

It was at Auburn that he met the love of his life, Jodi. They were married for 27 years and raised their two children in Atlanta. During that time, Bob served as a CFO or COO in a wide variety of industries, including hospitality, education, IT, and healthcare. As an employee, Bob stood out as a creative and inspirational leader with a tireless work ethic. As a father, he was always ready with good advice, a hug, and a joke.

Bob had a strong faith and an incredible will to live, beating back Hodgkins Lymphoma repeatedly over a period of 13 years. Throughout both treatment and recovery, he maintained his sharp wit and dry sense of humor and managed to keep everyone else laughing with him—nurses, caretakers, and worried friends alike. At home, he pursued a variety of hobbies, including running, carpentry, landscape design, gardening, beekeeping and walking the family dogs.

Through everything he did, Bob inspired those around him to work hard, play hard, put others first, and never take themselves too seriously. From building tree houses to closing deals, nothing he did was done in half measures. He was larger than life, and his drive, courage, generosity and sharp mind are impossible to forget. He leaves behind his great love for life and for all those who shared it with him.
